The Fact That It Goes Up

Composed in collaboration with choreographer Jeremy Nelson for a dance commissioned by Phoenix Dance Theatre, Leeds UK. I used recordings made within a block radius around my Brooklyn home -- I am situated at a very busy intersection, with a truck route on the ground level, the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway on an overpass above, and a subway line below. I set about making the more abrasive and annoying parts of this soundscape into something I could love. A therapeutic exercise in some respects, and one which worked rather well.
